Get a Job Using Photoshop: Leverage a Portfolio!
Photoshop is now the tool of choice for many large industries, and it has become a professional pursuit for many to understand the full capacity of what Photoshop has to offer. My hats off to those who use Photoshop in a professional setting sharing digital art with the world, and getting paid to do so. I have a friend and long term Photoshop buddy who is putting his skills to work at a vinyl wrap shop in Phoenix. He is one of the best graphic artists I know, and it’s awesome to see him really able to explore his creativity and his abilities by creating designs for unique luxury automobiles. You can check out some of his work at phoenixautowrap.com and see his versatility. Look how fun this must be to spend your days designing wraps like these ones.

Thank you Photoshop for giving creative people, a great way to make a living!
Careers in the vinyl wrap industry, print media, and other media agencies offer people like ourselves who have a fascination and interests in manipulating photos and images a great opportunity to make good money while doing what we love. The coolest part is that much of what many people know with photoshop is self taught or learned by checking out photoshop tutorials on the internet. Not to discredit those that are pursing a degree in graphic arts, because many employers are certainly looking for that, but the reality is no one will turn down a stunning portfolio, regardless if you went to school or not. Experience speaks in the real world, so get cracking on your personal portfolio of digital art.
In fact once you have a portfolio or something to reference to others the sky is really the limit. Photoshop skills are highly saught after especially is you can combine them with the rest of the Adobe Suite, which we will get into in later posts. Media is really going the way of the internet, so people who can provide stunning media art that can be spread through the internet is worth a lot of money. Think web design, logo design, and other types of branding. Another huge part of my friends business at their vinyl wrap shop is commercial vehicle wraps. Fleets of vans will get their logos and large images representing their brand or service placed on the vehicles. Sometimes it may just be a truck or two, but you can image the brand awareness that is created by driving around a vehicle that has your logo wrapped on your car, especially if you have a well designed logo that catches peoples attention. The coolest part is there is so much inspiration and resources all over the internet. You can easily get inspired by others work that can eventually lead to a masterpiece of your own. Often times people will even show you through a tutorial how they created something. This can be extremely valuable for photoshop beginners, because you can learn step-by-step how to create a good looking finished product. Make sure to never copy anyone else’s work and claim it as your won, but this can be a good way to get inspiration for your first portfolio piece. The thing is, once you create something really stunning, and learn the tools well that helped you do so, you feel like you can create anything else afterwards. This boost of confidence can give you the confidence to sell a project, even when you have done nothing even remotely similar. Because you know you can always learn on the job, with the help of the internet and google anything you get stuck on.
Don’t feel like your skills are good enough to land you a well paid position yet? Well then get practicing, there are too many resources to ever think you couldn’t learn Photoshop and be qualified enough to work somewhere. Regardless of where you are at with your Photoshop understanding, get out there and be a hard worker and just soak in as much as you can. Hopefully myself and other bloggers can be a great resource for you, and aid in you becoming a Photoshop expert!
